Gold King Mine Rehabilitation Abstract: While much has been publicized about the Gold King Mine release in 2015, very little has been said about the steps taken to rehabilitate and stabilize the mine since then. Christoph Goss, who has had the privilege of working as a consultant for the EPA during the repairs, will discuss: Silverton area Geology Overview of mines around Bonita Peak History of Gold King Mine Initial stabilization of portal 2015 Permanent support installation 2016 Flow Control Structure 2017 Speaker Bio: Christoph Goss received his BS in civil engineering and his PhD in mining engineering, both from the Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO. He is a Principal with Deere & Ault Consultants Inc. in Longmont, CO. His practice focuses mostly on tunneling, underground construction, and mine rehabilitation. He was the lead designer for the Gold King Level 7 rehabilitation 2015-2018. The meeting cost is $40 and includes dinner catered by Moe's BBQ and beverages (beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options).  The meeting is open to the general public (you don't need to be an SME Colorado Section member).  Buffet menu will consist of pulled pork, sliced smoked turkey, slaw, potato salad, cornbread, bbq sauce, and pickles.  If you would prefer BBQ tofu instead of meat, please email me (sdoyle@mines.edu) so we can order enough.   Students: The student rate is $20 and can be paid by cash or check at the door.  However, please RSVP to me (sdoyle@mines.edu) so we have enough food and space available.  The American Mountaineering Center is located in downtown Golden.  There is plenty of parking in a lot behind the building.  There is also parking along the street and across the street at the park.  If you enter from back side of the building, the climbing wall will be on your right and the conference rooms are on the left.    If you enter from the side of the building near Coors, we'll be in the conference room right when you enter the side door.   We look forward to seeing you there!
Kangaroo Experience with granola feeding
StartMar 22
EndMar 22
PLEASE READ THIS IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE BOOKING:  * Please note that the Saturday and Sunday granola feedings with the kangaroos have now been moved into the full zoo experiences. Please let us know if you have any questions.  Spend 30 minutes face to face learning and interacting with Red Kangaroos. This experience includes: feeding the kangaroos treats (granola), time to take individual photos, learn about the kangaroos and marsupials from our "Zoo Crew", and learning about the missions of Zoo Chateau. The interaction will be 30 minutes and the time will start as soon as the liability waivers are signed and we have entered the kangaroo enclosure.  Please note that this interaction is not the best environment for children under 3 years old. If parents would like to have their children that are under 3 participate, please ensure that there is an adequate number of adults to trade off holding or watching the kids as the kangaroos can react to crying and sudden movements. This is to make sure that you and our other guests get the most out of the interaction with our animals. All children will need a ticket reguardless of age due to limited ticket availability and limited space in the barn.  Guests should be comfortable around all types of animals. As a disclaimer: cats live on the property and occasionally dogs will also be present on the property. The itinerary for the Kangaroo experience will include: - Safety orientation on how to interact with the kangaroos (including signing release of liability) - If the roos are inside, two guests at a time will get the opportunity to go into the enclosure to feed the kangaroos and take photos as well as pet the roos. If they are outside, the group will go out into the enclosure and get the chance to individually feed and interact with and take photos with the roos.-The Zoo Crew Representative will give information about Bindi and Rooney, and kangaroos in general, and guests may ask any questions that they have- Meanwhile, the rest of the group will be watching and will be able to take photos from the viewing area (or within the enclosure) while they await their turn, or after the conclusion of their turn DISCLAIMER: Here at Zoo Chateau, our first priority is our animal and guest safety. If for some reason we feel that it is not in the best interest of the kangaroos or the guests, we reserve the right to cancel. In the event that Zoo Chateau cancels an interaction, guests will receive a voucher for a future date.  Please arrive on time as we will begin promptly. Entry may be refused to guests who arrive after the intended start time.   FAQs Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a PAYING legal guardian or adult assuming responsibility. Waivers/release of liability must be signed as soon as you enter the property, therefore minors CANNOT participate in this experience on their own. Since this is a legal document, ID may be required to be presented. This will be strictly enforced.  Can someone come observe and not participate for no charge? No. Due to the limited amount of space and our intimate experience with our animals, unfortunately we cannot allow for people to just observe. Please email us directly if you have additional questions about this.   What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? As for transportation, personal vehicles and Uber or Lyft are the best options. It is the first property passed the gate so it is easy to locate.  What can I bring into the event? We encourage you to bring a camera or phone for taking photos (no flash photography), clothes that can get dirty, and closed-toed shoes. Zoo Chateau shall not be held responsible for any lost, stolen, or ruined personal items while you are participating in the interactions or while presiding on the property.   How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Please email zoochateau@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.  What's the refund policy? A full refund will be given if it is at least 7 days before the event. If it is after the 7 day mark, in special circumstances we may be able to reschedule but this is not guarateed due to the high demand of these interactions.   Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Please have proof of ticket purchase when you arrive. This can be in the form of a ticket or just confirmation of payment and may be electronic or printed.    Can I update my registration information? Yes, you are able to update your registration information.   Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable? Your ticket can be purchased by or given to anyone. However, any additional email confirmation and information will go to the person who purchased the ticket. If you do sell or give your ticket to someone else, please ensure that they reach out to zoochateau@gmail.com in order to get thier confirmation email.   Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? Yes, we encourage you to purchase tickets for friends and family. However, if you give a ticket to someone else, please ensure that they reach out to zoochateau@gmail.com in order to get thier confirmation email since email confirmation will go to the person who purchased the email.

Thomas Gabriel ( Grandson of Johnny Cash )
StartMar 28
EndMar 28
T.G. - as those closest to him call him - is the oldest grandchild of Johnny Cash. Predominately raised on the road, he often dreamed of a life as a successful career musician. When he was young, his grandfather would call him onstage, to sing “When the Saints Go Marching In. At 21, he was in the studio trying out his voice. Johnny would say, “Son, you sound a lot like I did when I was younger; work on those vocals.”Johnny also insisted that T.G. have a back-up option, so he went to the police academy, and into police work.Life and adversity has kept him from pursuing his dreams, but he has regained control over his life, and is back in the world that holds so much potential for him.Along with his voice that sounds so much like his grandfather’s, he brings a wealth of stories from his memories of his childhood and of growing up a member of such an iconic family. This is an extremely intimate venue and tickets will be limited. https://www.forbes.com/sites/pamwindsor/2018/11/21/johnny-cashs-grandson-thomas-gabriel-comes-full-circle/?fbclid=IwAR2xpe25UgzDwMuSYvvJP-vtYsvl2FI5WQ5_WQ1dC-CWozbVCJEeoAIgEo0#4d3e2dbb4f13
